Album of the week 3/6/26

This weeks Album is "The Yes Album" By Yes

The Yes Album is Yes' third album and is what I believe to be the album that solidified the style of the band. With the introduction of Steve Howe as the bands guitarist Yes was able to refine its sound to that of its most iconic era, and while the Keyboards would still be done by Tony Kaye until the next album, the style is distinctly that of the yes albums that follow (albeit, lacking synthesizers).
The Yes album includes a tracklist of:
Side 1) 1. "Yours Is No Disgrace" 2. "Clap" 3. "Starship Trooper" (a. Life Seeker b. Disillusion c. Wurm)
Side 2) 4. "I've seen All Good People" (a. Your Move b. All Good People) 5. A Venture 6. Perpetual Change
I learned from my previous review that writing too much will cost me hours so im going to try and keep the track reviews short this time :'D
Side 1:
The album opens with the eclectic track "Yours is no disgrace", which over the years has proven to be a common staple of Yes' live performance.
(some would argue "eclectic" is the word to describe this album as a whole)
Next it goes into the instrumental track "The Clap" a guitar track played by Steve howe that moves all around, never slowing down and managing to stay a catchy tune.
After this we have the track Starship trooper, quite easily the most important track of The Yes Album it starts with the movement a. Life Seeker, a slower but still eventful introduction to the song and its wild time changes and unique instrumental track. From there it moves into b. Disillusions opens with a stellar guitar part that stands out from the rest of the song but then quickly returns to the chorus before movin us into the 3rd and final movement. The final movement, c. Wurm, is a shining example of the guitar abilities of Steve Howe where he has a solo with a sort of guitar Duet, this is complimented wonderfully by the drumming of Yes Drummer Bill Bruford, this instrumental makes for a great climax of the track and wonderful end for side 1.
Side 2:
Side 2 opens with the iconic track "Ive seen all Good people" which starts with the movement a. Your Move, while its a slower movement it is quite soothing to listen to, this of course is quickly changed by the fast paced second movement, b. All Good people, which has one lyric repeated "Ive seen all good people turn their heads each day So satisfied, Im on my way"
After this it moves into what I think is the most underrated track of the album, A Venture, A Venture is a short and rather nice 3 minute piece that i hve to say highlights Tony Kaye's keyboard work quite well.
After this the album closes with the track "Perpetual change" which is notable for its rather wild keyboard opening and intro drums, perpetual change is easily one of the best tracks on this album.

Currently Spinning

Close to the Edge by Yes is my current favorite album, although i have some close runner ups (Animals & WYWH by pink floyd or TFTO by Yes) nothing quite beats the musical experience that is close to the edge.
