Album of the week 2/22/26
This weeks Album is "Wish You Where Here" By Pink Floyd
Wish You Where here is among the strongest in Pink Floyds Catalog, It's Tracklist includes that of Shine on You Crazy Diamond Parts 1-5, Welcome To The Machine, Have A Cigar, Wish you Were Here, and Shine On You Crazy Diamond Parts 6-9
From the start this album opens with the first half of the Iconic Tribute to former band member Syd Barrett "Shine On you Crazy Diamond", Shine on you Crazy diamond is a 25 Minute long masterpiece that ranks among the best in Pink Floyds Catalogue, While being the most on the nose about the themes of the Album of all its tracks. It Directly tackles the themes of the problems within the industry while also in many places acknowledging Syd Barret and his struggles due to his place in the industry saying "You were caught in the crossfire of childhood stardom"
The next track is Welcome To the Machine which is another commentary on the music industry, with the lyrics litterally welcoming you into the machine that is the music industry
The Next track is Have A Cigar, A harsh critique of the record executives and others in the industry who profit from the talent of artists while controlling them. Have a Cigar is among my favorite tracks musically on this album.
After that you have the namesake song "Wish You Were Here" Wish You Were Here is a slower song that i interpreted as a requiem to the loss of Syd Barret, or perhaps a song that serves to feel for loss in general.
After this track we return to finish the albums larger song Shine On You Crazy Diamond with parts 6-9, perfectly wrapping up this album And cementing the albums themes of loss, and critiques of the music industry
